What were you up to before joining Canopy?

Jack: Before joining Canopy, I worked for a residential tree care company in Berkeley. I received a BA in Economics from the University of Oregon, and I’m currently taking classes in landscape horticulture and arboriculture at Merritt College in Oakland.

Why do you think trees are so important?

Jack: Too many reasons: trees clean our air, cool our streets down, provide shade, reduce noise pollution, and just make cities a nicer place to live. They’re also nice to look at!

What are you excited to be working on?

Jack: Pruning your trees! You may also find me at planting and volunteer events, and I look forward to meeting some of you.

What is your favorite tree?

Jack: The first trees that come to mind are California Bays (Umbellularia californica) at Tilden Regional Park in the East Bay, with their aromatic leaves and sprawling root flares. I hear you can roast Bay nuts and make a coffee-like drink, but I’ve yet to do that.

What are your favorite hobbies?

Jack: Most of my free time is spent reading, playing basketball, biking, or cooking.

Thanks, Jack! We’re so glad to have you on the Canopy team!
