Community and Service Group Volunteering

Canopy values connecting with the community and working together to grow the urban forest in our Midpeninsula cities.

We offer volunteer opportunities for community groups, service organizations, faith groups, and schools who share a commitment to bringing nature into neighborhoods.

Please review the information on this webpage before completing the Group Volunteering Request Form.

Join an opportunity listed on Canopy's event calendar

Groups of up to 8 volunteers are welcome to join volunteer events which are advertised on the Canopy Event Calendar, when space allows.

If your group would like to join us at one of our upcoming events, please complete the Group Volunteering Request Form. A minimum of 20-30 days advanced scheduling is preferred. We will review your request and be in touch soon.*

*Capacity for volunteer groups at Canopy’s public volunteer events is not guaranteed. Please wait to receive a reservation confirmation from Canopy staff before moving forward. Thank you!

Organize a private group volunteer event

Bring your group outdoors and dig in with Canopy to provide critical young tree care to ensure the urban forest thrives for generations to come. Canopy offers Tree Care Work Days for groups looking to have a private volunteer experience. This opportunity is available throughout the year.

There are also occasional opportunities to schedule a private Tree Planting volunteer event during the tree planting season (October to April).

If you are interested in organizing a private volunteer activity for your group, please review the policy and rate information below, then fill out the Group Volunteering Request Form.

Private Group Volunteer Policy

Canopy prioritizes working with community, service, faith, and school groups based in Canopy’s service area. This area includes Palo Alto, East Palo Alto, Mountain View, Menlo Park, North Fair Oaks, and Redwood City. Requests are reviewed on a case by case basis.

A minimum of 60 days advanced scheduling is preferred for groups requesting a private workday.

Private Group Volunteer Rates

To schedule a private volunteer activity for your group, there is a tax-deductible donation of $50 per person with a minimum of 10 volunteers.

This donation helps defray the costs associated with organizing, leading, and educating groups, and ensures our ability to offer meaningful experiences. Payment is due one week before the scheduled workday along with an expected number of attendees.

For questions regarding fees, please contact [email protected].
