  • Community Forestry School (Sept. 8-Nov. 3)

    This 9-week course will equip you with the knowledge, skills, and training you need to take action in your community right away. As a Community Forestry School graduate, you will be equipped to identify trees, plant and prune effectively, explain the value of the urban forest to others, and advocate for trees in your community.

    • Duration: 9 weeks (attendance at 8 out of 9 Wednesday classes required for certification)
    • Dates: Wednesdays, September 8 through November 3, 2021 from 6:30-8:30 PM. Outdoor field experiences take place on Saturdays and occasional weekdays for hands-on practice.
    • Location: all Wednesday classes will be held online via Zoom. Locations for field experiences will be shared during the course, and will be held in Mountain View, East Palo Alto, or Palo Alto.
    • Cost: FREE

  • Tree Walk: Pioneer Park

    Join our first post-Covid tree walk and explore the trees of Pioneer Park in downtown Mountain View. The walk highlights 17 species including the majestic native Valley Oak, the mighty Monterey Pine, and the aromatic Deodar Cedar. 

    The Pioneer Park Tree Walk begins at the Coast Live Oak at the corner of the Mountain View Public Library, 585 Franklin St.

  • Tree Walk: Edible Urban Forest

    Location: Johnson Park, 268 Waverley St, Palo Alto, CA 94301, USA

    Join food and sustainability experts for a special one-way tree walk from Johnson Park to Gamble Garden. We'll see a great variety of trees while learning about the delicious fruits they provide!

    • Peter Ruddock - California Policy & Implementation Director, COOK Alliance 
    • Shannon O'Dell - The Organic Garden Chef

    The Edible Urban Forest Tree Walk begins at Johnson Park, 268 Waverley St, at the Avocado Tree in the concrete tree well next to the playground. Please note that this is a one-way tree walk that ends at Gamble Garden approximately one mile from the start.

    Walk with Canopy as we explore the Palo Verde neighborhood. You'll learn about a variety of trees from the small and delicate Flowering Dogwood to the uncommon Scotch Pine to the aromatic Deodar Cedar -- and many more!

    The Palo Verde Neighborhood Tree Walk begins in front of Palo Verde Elementary School at 3450 Louis Road in Palo Alto.
