Today’s @losaltosrotaryclub’s Climate Action Summit was a terrific local event, sharing actionable programs for organizations and individuals. It was a delight to hear from Oakland Rotary No 3 about their collaboration with the @oaklandprf to expand Oakland’s urban forest canopy as well as @alameda_casa ‘s Alameda planting with @100ktrees planned for tomorrow — and forestry.org’s community directed work in Castro Valley. Look up the Artemis Moon Tree! Canopy is inspired by this incredible local action and the Rotary’s climate action programs.

Celebrate the life and work of Martin Luther King

Celebrate the life and work of Martin Luther King Jr. with Canopy and Los Robles-Ronald McNair Academy at our community tree planting on Monday, January 20th. You'll help plant the final trees to qualify Los Robles as California’s first ArbNet-accredited arboretum on a K-12 public school campus! This historic arboretum will feature nearly 100 trees of at least 25 unique species. In addition to the tree planting, family-friendly activities, community resources, and light snacks will be available. Canopy's Junior Forester Leadership (JFL) Program

Canopy's Junior Forester Leadership (JFL) Program is an opportunity for high school youth to expand their environmental science knowledge and leadership skills by co-designing and co-leading a Canopy after-school program. This past fall, our Junior Foresters continually refined their environmental leadership and teaching skills at schools like Belle Haven Elementary, and the elementary school students experienced fun outdoor enrichment with knowledgeable role models.

When enthusiastic second graders leave the lessons with awe and appreciation for their community trees, we believe Canopy has grown shoots of opportunity. And thanks to your generous support we can continue to make possible chances for youth and adults alike to be inspired and advocate for the urban forest. Congratulations to @greentownlosaltos for planting

Congratulations to @greentownlosaltos for planting their 500th tree yesterday! This community achievement is years in the making, with the first tree planted back in November 2019. We applaud the volunteers, residents, and organizations that partnered with @greentownlosaltos to get these trees planted in the ground.

We also applaud Gary Hedden, the GreenTown Los Altos conservation lead, for organizing this community tree planting effort. Gary (second to right in the photo) graduated from Canopy’s Community Forestry School in 2019 and continues to use his tree knowledge and advocacy skills in his community and beyond!
