By Canopy Team on August 23, 2022

Evany Wang (she/her) joined the Canopy team in August 2022 to coordinate tree planting and surveying in Palo Alto and Mountain View. We asked Evany a few questions to get to know her better.

What were you up to before joining Canopy?

Evany: I graduated from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo with a bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture.

After graduation I joined AmeriCorps, first working with Grassroot Ecology in Palo Alto then Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust in Seattle, WA. Before joining Canopy in 2022, I was a seasonal crew member with Santa Lucia Conservancy where I worked on invasive weeds management and fuel management.

Why do you think trees are so important?

Evany: Logically: environmental, health, and social equity benefits. I see them as a foundational building block to society. Personally though, I care about trees because of how beautiful and resilient they are. Seeing a mature tree brings a sense of peace and quiet to the mind that I don’t find in most places. Being able to enjoy the shade of a tree is more relaxing than I can express in words. So being able to bring that to others is a passion of mine. One other thing too is that seeing trees really ignite my mind and makes me curious about nature as a big picture.

What are you excited to be working on?

Evany: I’m really excited to be expanding my tree knowledge and being able to talk to other people about trees. Better yet, planting trees for others to enjoy.

What is your favorite tree?

Evany: Coast live oak or Valley oak

What are your favorite hobbies?

Evany: Scuba diving, rock climbing, playing video games and tabletop games, crocheting, camping, amateur backpacking

Any last words?

Live fighting for your passion and your values.

Thanks, Evany! We’re so glad to have you on the Canopy team.
