Meet Michael DeBroeck, Canopy’s Tree Care Coordinator

By Canopy Team on November 19, 2024

Michael DeBroeck (he/him) joined the Canopy team in November 2024 as the Tree Care Coordinator. We asked Michael a few questions to get to know him better.

What were you up to before joining Canopy?

Michael: I briefly crossed paths with Canopy as the intern of the 2016 Young Tree Care Survey. After college graduation, I worked at the educational farm & garden at Sacred Heart Schools teaching classes to lower school and high school students about food sustainability. I then worked for Davey Resource Group as a utility forester & estimating arborist contracted to PG&E doing wildfire safety work.

What are you excited to be working on?

Michael: Really excited to be working with such wonderful people who are enthusiastic about making a difference and caring for our urban forests.

Why do you care about trees?

Michael: Trees are the front line to combat environmental & health inequality issues. I also want more people to experience the beauty of living with trees.

What is your favorite tree?

Michael: Coast live oak

Favorite Quote?

Michael: All that is gold does not glitter, not all who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, deep roots are not reached by frost.

What are your favorite hobbies?

Michael: Dungeons & Dragons and other TTRPGs (tabletop role playing games).

Any last words?

Michael: I am super excited and honored to work with Canopy & their amazing communities of volunteers and tree stewards!

Thanks, Michael! Welcome to the Canopy team. 🌳
