We’re excited to announce a new artistic partnership with Patricia Larenas, a talented Bay Area artist that shares our passion for trees. With work from her latest series of tree portraits (seen below), Patricia uses her art to capture iconic trees and inspire others to help preserve these impressive species.
Patricia’s love for for trees and understanding that healthy communities need the shade of healthy trees came at a young age.
“I grew up in neighborhoods in Southern California that didn’t have an abundance of trees or beautiful gardens. My family emigrated from Chile, and my parents struggled to provide the best quality of life for us that they could afford. I fully embrace Canopy’s mission to provide and support the planting of trees in less privileged neighborhoods- I know it’s of critical importance to the health of these communities.”
In Patricia’s first project as Artist-in-Residence, we’ve commissioned a new tree portrait of “Lucy”, a local 250-year-old Valley Oak beloved by her neighbors in Palo Alto. This portrait will be given away to one lucky attendee of our June 24th Planting Hope, Growing Resilience event. Register today to ensure your name is in the drawing!
We’re excited to work with Patricia over the next few months to show the beauty and importance of trees through art as we incorporate her drawings into our events, classes, and outreach. Thank you to Patricia for using her time and talents to support trees and partner with Canopy!
