Meet Sandra Reyes, Canopy’s Bilingual Environmental Educator

By Canopy Team on February 5, 2026

Sandra Reyes (she/her) joined the Canopy team in January 2026 as the Bilingual Environmental Educator in Santa Clara County. We asked Sandra a few questions to get to know her better.

What were you up to before joining Canopy?

Sandra: Many places! I worked as an ESL teacher in Baltimore, Maryland through Teach For America where I taught newcomer students at a high school. I moved to Colombia right after receiving a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Fellowship to teach in Bucaramanga. I then moved to the Dominican Republic on a Princeton in Latin America grant being a Youth Development and Teacher Training Facilitator.

What are you excited to be working on?

Sandra: I’m excited to go into the classroom and teach kids about trees and water! I haven’t taught in a US school since being in Baltimore a couple years ago, so I’m excited to be back in the classroom and come up with fun, engaging lessons while making it all language accessible in Spanish!!

Why do you care about trees?

Sandra: So many reasons! Helps climate change, home for wildlife, oxygen etc. It does so many things for us while being very beautiful to look at.

What is your favorite tree?

Sandra: Banana trees!

What are your favorite hobbies?

Sandra: Crochet, hiking, biking, reading, climbing!

Thanks, Sandra! Welcome to the Canopy team. 🌳
