Trees of Life Program

About Trees of Life

In 2025, Canopy launched Trees of Life, a program that aims to bridge faith and community forestry to grow tree canopy and advance tree equity across East Palo Alto. Through this collaborative program, Canopy partners with faith leaders and congregation members to coordinate community tree plantings on congregation properties, tree plantings at congregants’ residences, and fruit tree adoptions.

Collaborating with our faith-based partners, we’re able to identify more plantable space across East Palo Alto–parking lots, sidewalks, and lawns–where shade, greenery, and joy can grow in the form of a tree. And these trees don’t just get planted by Canopy Community Foresters; they are planted with congregation members, deepening their connection with their local urban forest and fostering a sense of lifelong tree stewardship. And when congregants adopt a fruit tree or have a shade tree planted at their home, they bring the life-giving benefits of trees home!

Three Ways to Participate

Congregation Tree Plantings

Plant shade and greenery at your congregation! Canopy will coordinate a community tree planting at your congregation’s property.

Residential Tree Plantings

Get free trees for your home and neighborhood! Canopy will plant trees at the residences of congregation members.

Fruit Tree Adoptions

Adopt a fruit tree with Canopy! Canopy will coordinate a free fruit tree distribution for your congregants.
