This month, we're celebrating the histories and cultures of Latinx communities and the contributions of Latinx environmentalists who use their knowledge, experiences, and cultures to create healthier, more resilient communities. As the month comes to an end, we want to celebrate our Latinx staff and Board members who bring their lived experiences to Canopy and help make our work possible.

Thank you to the community members, Planting Leade

Thank you to the community members, Planting Leaders, and Teen Urban Foresters who came together last Saturday to plant 15 trees in the Belle Haven neighborhood! Five trees were planted at the All Five campus and 10 trees were planted at neighboring residences. When fully mature, these trees could offset 62.2 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year. That’s the equivalency of the carbon dioxide emitted by 15 gasoline powered cars on the road for a year!

Thank you to everyone who attended Canopy’s 2024 Tree Awards and Volunteer Party! We always enjoy being in community with all of you and celebrating the power of people together. Volunteers are, without a doubt, at the core of Canopy’s success and impact. Our 2024 Tree Awardees are shining examples of this and we were so proud and grateful to recognize their achievements!

Thank you to Angel Fernandez, Ashok Srinivasan, and DJ Stamper for capturing the day in photos and to @bloomhouseepa for hosting us. We also wish to thank East Palo Alto’s own @brewing.with.brothas for allocating two of their local brews to the event.

Canopy is hiring an Education Intern! We're looking for a highly motivated and organized individual to support Canopy’s Education team, particularly the Adult Education Coordinator and K-12 Environmental Educator. This role will provide flexible support for education programs, which may include assistance with behind-the-scenes coordination, preparation, research, outreach, and/or record-keeping as needed. By the end of the internship our Education Intern will have gained experience in program preparation, design, and implementation, as well as classroom management and adult engagement strategies.
🌳Timeframe: October to December 2024, 20 hours/week
🌳Location: Hybrid position based in Palo Alto, CA

At Canopy Tree Walks, a certified arborist guides participants through one of the neighborhood routes, sharing in-depth information, fun facts, and tips about caring for trees and selecting tree species. Thank you to the 32 volunteers, 15 Teen Urban Foresters, and Canopy staff who helped plant 20 trees at our East Palo Alto Neighborhood Planting on September 14th. It filled our hearts to see so many people come together on a Saturday morning to take action for our local urban forest. What a beautiful way to kick off the new planting season!
