Join us for a 1-hour online training to participate in the Young Tree Care Survey! Young Tree Care Survey (YTCS) is an annual summer survey where volunteers help survey public trees in the City of Palo Alto that were planted within the last 5 years. The data that is collected will help the City of Palo Alto target the young trees that need the most care.
This training will cover how to use TreePlotter, an online software that allows us to keep track of trees and update its information regularly. Completing the training is required for new YTCS participants and volunteers who have not participated for more than a year. Once you complete the training, you'll be set to complete YTCS routes. We hope to see you there!

Join us for the 2026 Young Tree Care Survey (YTCS) Kick-Off! Every summer, YTCS volunteers and Canopy staff explore Palo Alto’s neighborhoods to survey young street trees. Volunteers are given routes to assess if trees are getting enough water, mulch, and pruning and to note their findings in TreePlotter.
We strongly encourage completing a virtual YTCS training (see Events Calendar) before joining an in-person survey session. The survey location will be a public space and the address will be sent to your email. Contact [email protected] or [email protected] with questions.
