  • Bubb Elementary School Stewardship Day Saturday, Aug 22, 2026 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am Benjamin Bubb Elementary School, 525 Hans Ave, Mountain View, CA 94040, USA

    Register: Sign up

Join us and the Bubb community at Bubb Elementary School to continue our stewardship of the newly planted trees. With support from local nonprofit Canopy and the City of Mountain View, volunteers, staff, and families will be mulching the new tree grove to retain soil moisture, keep roots cool in summer and warm in winter, suppress weeds, protect against mower damage, and slowly add nutrients to the tree as it naturally breaks down. This is a youth-friendly education activity, too! See you there.

Join us for the 2026 Young Tree Care Survey (YTCS)! Every summer, YTCS volunteers and Canopy staff explore Palo Alto’s neighborhoods to survey young street trees. Volunteers are given routes to assess if trees are getting enough water, mulch, and pruning and to note their findings in TreePlotter.

We strongly encourage completing a virtual YTCS training (see Events Calendar) before joining an in-person survey session. The survey location will be a public space and the address will be sent to your email. Contact [email protected] or [email protected] with questions.

  • Community Arboretum Day: Roots and Stars Arboretum Saturday, Aug 22, 2026 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm Los Robles Ronald McNair Academy, 2033 Pulgas Ave, East Palo Alto, CA 94303, USA

    Register: No registration required

On August 22nd, the Roots and Stars Arboretum at East Palo Alto’s Los Robles Ronald McNair Academy will be open for a community Arboretum Day, 11am to 3pm. Neighbors and friends are invited to drop in for guided tree walks, tree care demonstrations, tree planting sign-ups and a chance to bring questions straight to a consulting arborist. The day is open to RCSD families and all community. It's a chance for anyone curious about incredible work done on the RCSD site to see it firsthand and to visit the first tree museum at a K-12 public school in California!

The day continues in the LRRMA Multipurpose Room with a community update on the East Palo Alto Urban Forest Master Plan. City staff, RCSD, Canopy, and other partners working on the plan will share progress against the 2022 plan's annual goals and what's ahead for the year. The hour also includes more tree sign-ups and time for community listening and comments — a chance for residents to weigh in on the work shaping East Palo Alto's urban forest.

  • Young Tree Care Survey: Virtual Training Thursday, Aug 27, 2026 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm Zoom

    Register: Sign up

Join us for a 1-hour online training to participate in the Young Tree Care Survey! Young Tree Care Survey (YTCS) is an annual summer survey where volunteers help survey public trees in the City of Palo Alto that were planted within the last 5 years. The data that is collected will help the City of Palo Alto target the young trees that need the most care.

This training will cover how to use TreePlotter, an online software that allows us to keep track of trees and update its information regularly. Completing the training is required for new YTCS participants and volunteers who have not participated for more than a year. Once you complete the training, you'll be set to complete YTCS routes. We hope to see you there!
