    Help maintain young trees and keep our urban forest happy and healthy! Join Canopy as we perform tree check ups and light tree care in the University Village neighborhood. 

    All instructions, tools, and equipment will be provided. We encourage you to bring reusable water bottles. Volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes that are comfortable for walking and sign a waiver (or have your parent/guardian sign a waiver if you are under 18 years old).

On this walk we will explore and observe trees using our five senses, transforming the park into a scented, tactile, sound-filled, and colorful world of adventure for children.   • Greenmeadow Neighborhood Tree Planting

    Help create greener communities! Canopy will team up with residents from the Greenmeadow neighborhood to plant new street and yard trees. This planting is one of the first of the South Palo Alto Tree Initiative, an effort to increase the tree canopy cover where it is greatly needed. 

    If you are a Greenmeadow resident that has not signed up for a tree and you would like one, on March 10th stop by 303 Parkside Drive from 9-12 to talk with a Canopy arborist, reserve your tree, sign up to help, and more! We're accepting tree signups until March 20th!

    We'll delve into Doctor Jahren's world as a scientist for an illuminating look at the wonder of trees, the world of roots and soil beneath our feet, and what life is like as a woman in science.

  • Tabling Volunteer Opportunity: Palo Alto Earth Day Festival

    Like last year, Canopy will be taking part in the City of Palo Alto's annual Earth Day Festival and Great Race for Saving Water. Check out the event website to see more details on this wonderful community event!

    We are seeking volunteers to help run our table, where we will have information for the public about the urban forest, how to care for trees, volunteer opportunities, and Canopy events and programs. We can provide training if you've never tabled with us before, and you can choose to work the morning shift (8-10:45) or afternoon shift (10:45-1:30).   • Citizen Pruner Work Day & Advanced Training

    Calling all Citizen Pruners! If you have ever been trained to prune trees with Canopy, we invite you to attend this advanced training and workday on pruning multi-stem trees and avocados. Dave Muffly, now Senior Arborist for Apple, will demonstrate techniques for pruning species with multiple trunks such as crape myrtles, and best practices for pruning avocados to increase productivity and ease of harvest. During the training, attendees will practice the techniques as part of a tree care workday at the Costano Elementary School.

  • Tree Walk: Midtown

    Join us for a special one-way tree walk from Johnson Park to Gamble Garden. We'll see a great variety of trees while learning about the delicious fruits they provide!  This walk is sponsored by Canopy, Slow Food South Bay, Transition Palo Alto, South Bay Bioregional Hub, and Silicon Valley Permaculture Guild. 

    Please note that this is a one-way tree walk. The Canopy vanwill be available to shuttle attendees back to the starting point, about 1mile.
