As a volunteer for our youth and adult education programs, you will help connect Midpeninsula communities to the knowledge, attitude, skills, and actions that support the urban forest.
To volunteer: Check for volunteer orientation dates on our calendar or email [email protected] with a brief introduction and the volunteer roles you’re interested in.
Event Calendar Volunteer Sign-upOur education volunteers support and co-lead our fun, outdoor pre-K-12th grade environmental lessons. You can expect to walk away from this experience with a variety of classroom management and engagement skills. No prior teaching experience is required, but a passion for working with kids is a must! Our lessons are held at schools in East Palo Alto, North Fair Oaks, Belle Haven, Palo Alto, and Mountain View during weekday school hours and are 60-90 minutes long.
Our family-friendly event volunteers support fun activities to make events like tree plantings and tree walks accessible and enjoyable for families.
If you are an arborist or a tree expert and love to talk about trees, Canopy has opportunities for you to share your knowledge with the public! Our volunteer arborists have opportunities to lead neighborhood tree walks and Community Forestry School sessions, as well as to answer questions at fruit tree distributions and other community events. We need English-speaking, Chinese-speaking, and Spanish-speaking (bilingual) tree experts.
CEUs are available for ISA-certified arborists. This is a great opportunity to spread the word about your tree work and connect with potential clients!
Canopy Tree Walk Reps present Canopy staff at a Tree Walk event. They welcome participants, take care of the check-in and related housekeeping process, and assist the tree walk lead to ensure that the walk goes smoothly.

Community outreach is an integral part of Canopy’s work, as it allows us to connect and share our work with our five communities. As an outreach volunteer, you will be the bridge between Canopy and our communities.
At community outreach events, tabling volunteers share about the different aspects of Canopy’s work, programs, upcoming activities, and tree advocacy related information, and invite community members to join us in transforming neighborhoods and the local environment.
We need volunteers who have the flair for connecting with people as they go around different neighborhoods in the communities we serve and share seasonal/topical/specific flyers for Canopy events or programs. This would also include visiting and posting flyers in business and community centers in addition to residences in the various neighborhoods.
