Join a Canopy Committee

Canopy accomplishes much of its work through committees, which you can apply to join! Composed of board members, staff, and advisors, committees are crucial to Canopy and make full use of the time, expertise, and commitment of its members to address issues and achieve goals.

Interested in joining a Canopy committee? Email [email protected] with a brief introduction and the committee(s) you are interested in joining or express your interest on the volunteer sign-up form. A Canopy staff member will connect with you to share next steps.

Advocacy

We are looking for passionate people from our communities of service, especially Belle Haven and North Fair Oaks, who want to elevate their community’s voice by engaging with policymakers, participating in public policy updates, meeting with community members, providing expertise, tracking tree-related issues in your community, and attending city or county meetings as a Canopy representative.

Community Forestry

Canopy’s Community Forestry Committee gives input and provides oversight for planning, scheduling, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating various Community Forestry Program activities. This effort encompasses plantings, tree care, tree walks, tree talks, workshops, tablings, surveys, and other special events. The Committee meets on the second Thursday of the month for 1.5 hours.

Education

Canopy’s Education Committee seeks community members with lived experience in the local PreK-12 education setting, adult education, and/or environmental education, whether as a teacher, a parent, or another role! This passionate, diverse group supports the education team in establishing and monitoring annual goals, problem-solving challenges, identifying opportunities, and ensuring that the community’s voice is reflected in our programs.

JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion)

Canopy’s JEDI Committee is rooted in the ideals of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion – and that everyone, regardless of age, ability, identity, or background, feels a sense of belonging and investment in our work. We believe that change comes when people listen to one another and come together to power their communities. The committee meets monthly on the second Wednesday from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m on Zoom.
