Canopy is hiring a full-time Community Forester! We're looking for a passionate individual to care for Canopy-planted trees in San Mateo County to ensure their successful establishment and longevity to grow equitable canopy cover in the communities of East Palo Alto, North Fair Oaks, and Belle Haven. This position is an excellent opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of urban and community forestry, to work collaboratively with others, and to affect positive, equitable change in our communities.

🌳Schedule: Tuesday through Saturday, 40 hours/week (in-office days on Tuesdays and Thursdays)
🌳Annual Salary: $60,000
🌳Location: Hybrid position based in Palo Alto, CA

This reading list includes works by 10 influential voices writing about environmental justice, systemic racism, and the relationship between Black Americans and nature. Canopy is excited to share that we are creating our very own Lotería - East Palo Alto Edition. The Lotería wouldn’t be complete without our community residents' and partners' input and talent. We invite everyone to submit a unique design that represents East Palo Alto. The designs can embody the history, cuisine, culture, etc. — we want to include it all!

Designs should be 8.5"x11", bilingual (Spanish and English), and family-friendly with a focus on East Palo Alto. Please submit your design(s) to juanita@canopy.org by March 7, 2025.

For MLK Day of Service, more than 200 volunteers a

For MLK Day of Service, more than 200 volunteers and community partners joined Canopy and Ravenswood City School District to plant 22 trees at Los Robles-Ronald McNair Academy. With these trees, Los Robles-Ronald McNair Academy continues the work to qualify as California’s first ArbNet-accredited arboretum on a K-12 public school campus!

This amazing feat would not have been possible without the support of our community, volunteers, and partnership with @ravenswoodcsd. Thank you to our Planting Leaders, Teen Urban Foresters, Community Forestry School Graduates, Los Robles-Ronald McNair students and families, Woodside Priory School sophomore class, members of YMSL Alpine Chapter, Oshman Family JCC, and volunteers from the local community. And thank you to the Los Robles-Ronald McNair Academy community who joined with Canopy to welcome volunteers to their campus. Together, we are creating a lasting legacy of shade, clean air, and an outdoor learning environment for Los Robles-Ronald McNair Academy students and families 💚

Today’s @losaltosrotaryclub’s Climate Action S

Today’s @losaltosrotaryclub’s Climate Action Summit was a terrific local event, sharing actionable programs for organizations and individuals. It was a delight to hear from Oakland Rotary No 3 about their collaboration with the @oaklandprf to expand Oakland’s urban forest canopy as well as @alameda_casa ‘s Alameda planting with @100ktrees planned for tomorrow — and forestry.org’s community directed work in Castro Valley. Look up the Artemis Moon Tree! Canopy is inspired by this incredible local action and the Rotary’s climate action programs.
