Introducing the California Buckeye (Aesculus californica)! This tree native to Northern California offers dense shading and has low water needs, which means it’s often ideal for planting in Bay Area communities; however, it requires good drainage and has heavy litter production, which may require more care. In the Mid-Peninsula, the California buckeye is often found in Foothills Park, Arastradero Park, and the residential areas, such as Canopy planting sites.
