September 25th, 2015 – We kicked off this program by joining Rebuilding Together and Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco for their 3-day “Building Blocks” event. While our partner organizations repaired and renovated homes in the neighborhood, Canopy volunteers planted 20 new street trees on and around Beech Street between Clarke and Pulgas.
January 18th, 2016 – In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, volunteers came together to plant new trees and over 100 landscape plants in Martin Luther King Jr. Park in East Palo Alto. We also held our first East Palo Alto Mayor’s Tree Planting–a new annual tradition that we’re excited to continue.
April 2nd, 2016 – Local residents of the Kavanaugh Neighborhood reached out to Canopy in late 2015 when they heard about our tree planting activities in East Palo Alto. With their help, Canopy reached out to dozens of households, working with residents to identify planting sites, select tree species, and plan for the neighborhood gathering. In total, over 150 volunteers came out to participate. Canopy planting leaders led efforts to plant 49 new street and yard trees. Other volunteers picked up trash around the neighborhood and removed old chain link fences.
October 22nd, 2016 – One of our biggest neighborhood tree plantings yet! With help from nearly 100 residents and volunteers, we planted 70 new trees in East Palo Alto’s University Village neighborhood, then wrapped up the day connecting over a barbecue in the park.
Want a free tree? Please complete the form below. We will organize a planting when enough residents in a concentrated area express desire for a tree in front of their home. Get your neighbors involved!
You can also reach Canopy’s Program and Outreach Coordinator, Uriel Hernandez, at 650-964-6110 ext. 4 or email@example.com for more information about the program.
Even if we are not planting a tree adjacent to your home, Canopy invites you to participate in neighborhood plantings and other work days. Please use our VOLUNTEER SIGN-UP FORM or email Uriel at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you for your interest!
