Education Volunteer Training (Part 1/3)

Time: 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm
Location: Peninsula Conservation Center - 3921 East Bayshore Road, Palo Alto
Description: Are you passionate about trees, the environment, and education? Do you enjoy working with kids? This three-part interactive training will prepare you to work as an Education volunteer with Canopy, exploring the wonderful world of trees through hands-on science lessons with elementary and middle school students.

The training will take place on three consecutive Wednesdays:
Part 1: Wednesday, August 5th, 4:30 -7pm
Part 2: Wednesday, August 12th, 4:30 - 7pm
Part 3: Wednesday, August 19th, 4:30 - 7pm

It will cover teaching methodology, cultural sensitivity, and three of Canopy's education modules. Following the training, you’ll have a chance to sign-up for volunteer dates throughout the 2015-2016 school year. Learn more and sign up here.

Tree Walk: Palo Verde

Time: 10:00 am to 12:00 pm
Location: Begins in front of Palo Verde Elementary School at 3450 Louis Road.
Description: Walk along with Canopy and an expert arborist, as we explore the Palo Verde neighborhood. You'll learn about a variety of trees from the small and delicate Flowering Dogwood to the uncommon Scotch Pine to the aromatic Deodar Cedar -- and many more! Tree Walk: West Bayshore

Description: A Sunday Tree Walk! Join Canopy and an expert arborist for an autumn stroll through the West Bayshore neighborhood. Examine diverse tree species like the White Mulberry, Red Ironbark, Carob, Patmore Ash, Briottii Red Horse Chestnut, River She-oak, and many more. Planting Leader Training Part 1 (option 1)

Description: This two-part, hands-on workshop is for teens and adults who want to help lead community tree-plantings with Canopy. No prior experience or knowledge is required; all skill levels are welcome! Returning veterans who would like to sharpen their skills are also invited to join.

Part One includes an introduction to urban trees, proper tree-planting techniques, and best practices in young tree care. It is offered on two dates: Thursday, Sept. 17th and Friday, Sept. 18th. Part Two allows participants to put their new skills to work planting young trees at a community space (school, park, or neighborhood) in Palo Alto or East Palo Alto. Barron Park Tree Walk
