About Trees

Palo Alto’s urban forest provides ongoing economic, environmental, social, and health-related benefits. Many of these benefits are now quantifiable in terms of energy savings or the amount of pollution captured (through air and water). Trees are also a practical and beautiful solution to global warming. Additional research on the social benefits of trees shows they have a direct impact on our physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Still other benefits speak to us on a more emotional and aesthetic level.

There’s a lot to learn about our leafy neighbors:

Palo Alto’s substantial tree canopy and leaf cover lower intense summer temperatures 6 to 8 degrees more than neighborhoods without trees.
